There's a Rumble in the Jungle! We have not lost our creativity in the summer holidays.... Our animal models are awesome! We built and read some very tricky sentences. We have done sooooooo much writing because we are much more grown up now we are in Tear 1. In Maths we have grouped and sorted. We have learned the concept of true and false and used this to answer questions and show our learning. We have learned the word representation and worked on representing numbers in different ways. No wonder we are exhausted.. In a good way! π
We loved our first week back at school! We got back into the swing of things VERY quickly!!
We are marvellous mathematicians! We have been looking at representation, ordering and sequencing numbers, one more and one less, greater than and less than as well as equal to. We have taken all our own pictures of our work!
We love Leo the Lion and Harry the Happy Mouse .... We are writing wizards! We have remembered how to use colourful semantics to help us build sentences. We have working on using adjectives as well as capital letters, full stops and finger spaces correctly. We are beginning to use 'and' to link our ideas.
Practising our throwing and catching skills!
We have really enjoyed looking back into the past! Our big question was ... 'How have toys changed over time?' We have been lucky enough to borrow some real toys from the past and we compared them to the toys we play with today. We were even luckier to have been visited by Luca's grandma. She talked to us about when she was our age and the things she played with. She was so lovely and she made us laugh. She told us she was given some old ballet shoes and she wore them to climb trees because they had good grip! We also learned about teddy bears and how they got their name. Miss Hayton learned some thing new like we did!
Black History Month... Floella Benjamin was our famous person to study. She is such a kind lady who has done so much work for children's charities and she has been recognised for her work by being made a 'Baroness' and she was also involved in the King's coronation. We enjoyed learning about her life and Miss Hayton showed us some clips of a programme called 'Play School' which Floella presented and Miss Hayton watched it when she was our age! We made a lovely display to add to the whole school one outside Mr Twist's office.
In our RE lessons we have been exploring the question 'Why do Christians say God is our Father?' and exploring the role of parents in families and the idea of 'love'. We made art work of our family members and read stories 'The Good Samaritan', 'The Prodigal Son', 'A Handful of Buttons' and 'Fill a Bucket'.Miss Hayton has been so impressed with our thinking skills and our grown up ideas and responses to our big questions. We also learned about Harvest time
In our PSHE lessons we have revisited The Colour Monster book and talked about our feelings but we then went a stage further to explore 'Zones of Regulation'. We show what zone we are in each morning when we arrive at school and we can change it throughout the day. We can talk to a trusted adult in school if we need to. Heather came to do some 'Kidsafe' sessions with us too!
In our Science lessons we have been learning about the human body! We learned lots of new words like limb, joint, pupil, schlera and we learned about each of our five senses. We also used our senses to share our thoughts about Autumn. We used playdough to make some Autumn trees
Computing! We remembered the word 'algorithm' from Class R and we have worked on creating our own algorithms in different situations from making a jam sandwich to programming Beebots to find their way through the pumpkin patch to meet their friend 'Spider'. We have learned what 'debugging' is too!
