Welcome to the Wonderful World of Class R!

We wanted to send you a personal welcome to our Shakespeare family from the EYFS staff and children in Class R.

On our class page, you will find lots of pictures showing you what we have been getting up to in class and all the fantastic learning taking place!

Last week, we learnt all about the lifecycle of a frog. We went out to the nature garden to look at the tadpoles in the pond. In class, we listened to the stories 'Grumpy Frog' and 'Frog on a log'. We wrote sentences about the stories, thought of words that rhymed with 'frog' and even drew our own frogs.

We had lots of fun at our May Day celebrations!

Last week we learnt all about 'The 3 Little Pigs' story. We worked in teams to build houses out of straw, sticks and bricks, practiced our cutting skills to dress the 3 little pigs and also did lots of number work and sentence writing.

We all looked great for Red Nose Day!

We experimented with different objects to find out if they floated or sank!

We learnt all about space last week. We wrote sentences about the Sun and the Moon, made rockets out of shapes, collaged with tinfoil to make astronauts and used bubble wrap to paint the Earth. We went into the hall and ordered the 8 planets based on their distance from the Sun, then walked around to show the planets orbiting. We even learnt about the 5 dwarf planets! We are super mathematicians in Class R! We have been practicing our number bonds to 10, practicing subitising and making estimates of amounts.

We all looked AMAZING on World Book Day and had lots of fun!

Last week, we read the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes'. We wrote a recipe to help Mr Wolf make his pancakes, talked about our own favourite toppings, designed our own pancakes and even got to try some yummy pancakes too!

We have been reading the story 'Whiffy Wilson' and talking about how we can stay healthy. We practiced brushing teeth, washing hands and making our own healthy packed lunch.

We have been reading the story 'Whatever next' in class. We made junk model rockets, used the ingredients we bought from Aldi to make sandwiches and then enjoyed a lovely picnic just like Baby Bear in the story. We really enjoyed our walk to Aldi last week. Each group bought an item from our shopping list ready for our picnic. We talked about prices of the items, then the children paid at the till and waited for their change and receipt.

We had such a lovely time at our Grandparent's Afternoon Tea. We even had a special performance from our school choir.

We have been doing lots of work on doubles in maths!

We even had a go at some traditional Chinese dancing!

We learned all about Chinese New Year last week. We practiced writing Chinese numbers, made sentences about the story 'Little Glow' and made some beautiful artwork.

Last week we were learning all about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We did 'hot seating' where some children pretended to be Goldilocks and Baby Bear and the others asked them questions about different parts of the story. For our maths work, we used balancing buckets to explore mass, used cubes to measure different sized bears and practiced our counting and number formation.

We have had lots of fun practicing hopping, jumping, skipping, throwing and catching in PE this week.

We have been learning all about nocturnal and diurnal animals in class this week.

We loved listening to the story 'Odd dog out' in class last week. We did lots of writing and maths work based on the story too!

We have been enjoying lots of Christmas activities in Class R!

We had a visit for our school therapy dog, Cooper, on Friday. We we all so well behaved and gentle with him and we can't wait to have him back in our class soon.

We had such a lovely morning at Family Making Morning. We made Christmas decorations with our grown ups!

We have been reading 'Here comes Jack Frost' in Class R this week. We have done lots of winter themed phonics and maths activities!

Have a look at our Stickman Maths!

We have been doing lots of work on Stickman in Class R this week. We did a science experiment where we had to free Stickman from the ice. We set up 5 melting stations with warm water, cold water, grit, the hand dryer and hammers and investigated which station would free Stickman the fastest. We have also been doing lots of English work this week. We used colourful semantics to make sentences, wrote CVC words and sentences and matched the initial sounds.

On Friday for Children in Need, we came to school dressed in our own clothes. We decorated biscuits with yellow icing and polka dots, did lots of lovely Pudsey artwork and played Pudsey Pong in the hall.

We have been having so much fun in our PE lessons this half term. We have been moving like different animals across obstacles.

We talked about why Remembrance Sunday is such an important day and made lots of different poppies.

We learned all about Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it last week. We had fun making our own sparklers and made firework art using shaving foam.

We are becoming super mathematicians in Class R! We have been using 5 frames and spiders to make numbers between 1 and 5 and using mini unifix blocks to manipulate 5.

Diwali is the five day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. We really enjoyed joining in with all our Diwali themed activities. We tried on traditional dress and danced to Diwali festival music, we made our own Diya lamps, we coloured Mehndi patterns and made lots of different Rangoli patterns.

As it was Halloween last week, we did lots of lovely, spooky artwork and listened to the story 'Room on the Broom'. We also voted for our favourite pumpkin design and then each had a turn at scooping out the inside of the pumpkin ready for it to be carved into our favourite design.

We have been reading The Enormous Turnip in class. We acted out the story and did lots of work counting and sequencing.

We have been learning about Harvest Festival in Class R. Farmer Ted and his wife left some vegetables in our classrooms and we used them to make soup! We all got to try the soup when it was ready too.

We had a Kidsafe session and talked about who our trusted adults are and how we felt on our first day of school.

We wore yellow for World Mental Health Day!
